The Texas Stars split a two-game series in San Diego over the weekend and are 3-1-0 through the first two weeks of the 2017-18 season. Jason Dickinson scored his fourth goal of the season, and Roope Hintz also scored for the Stars, who return to Texas to play three games against San Antonio this weekend.
And in the ECHL, Philippe Desrosiers stopped 23 shots as the Idaho Steelheads won their season opener.

Friday, October 13: Texas 3, San Diego 1

Curtis McKenzie tallied one goal and one assist and Mike McKenna stopped 27 shots as Texas won its third straight game to open the season with a 3-1 victory at San Diego on Friday night. McKenzie's goal at 14:16 of the first period gave Texas a 2-0 lead and proved to be the game-winner. Roope Hintz opened the scoring at 4:01 of the first, his second goal of the season. Matt Mangene sealed the win with an empty-net goal with eight seconds remaining in the game.

Saturday, October 14: San Diego 5, Texas 1

The Texas Stars saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday with a 5-1 loss at San Diego. Jason Dickinson's fourth goal of the season tied the game 1-1 late in the first period, but the Gulls outscored the Stars 3-0 in the second to take a 4-1 lead and grab control of the game. San Diego tacked on a power-play goal in the third to round out the scoring. Mike McKenna got the start in goal for the Stars and stopped 24 of 29 shots.

Idaho Steelheads

The Idaho Steelheads, Dallas' ECHL affiliate, split its opening weekend series with Norfolk. Dallas goaltending prospect Philippe Desrosiers stopped 23 of 25 shots as the Steelheads defeated Norfolk, 4-2, in the season opener on Friday. Desrosiers was the backup in Saturday's game as the Steelheads fell to the Admirals, 5-3. Dallas defense prospect Chris Martenet played in both games for Idaho and did not register any points. The Steelheads play three games against Utah this week.
