OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed defenceman Travis Hamonic to a two-year, $2.2M contract. The contract holds an average annual value of $1.1M, which he will earn in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

Hamonic, 32, skated in 75 regular-season games with the Senators in 2022-23 to establish a new career high in games played while ranking second among team defencemen in scoring with 21 points (six goals, 15 assists). He also ranked fourth among all players with 71 penalty minutes.

"Travis is a key component of our group," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He routinely sets a good example for our younger players with work ethic and accountability, his fearlessness and with a determination level that he seems to exceed each time he steps on the ice. He's a leader with strong character and someone we're very pleased to see returning."

A native of St. Malo, Man., Hamonic will enter the 2023-24 season seven games short of 800 for his NHL career over which he has recorded 229 points (50 goals, 179 assists) and 715 penalty minutes. Drafted by the Islanders with New York's third second-round selection in the 2008 NHL Draft, Hamonic has spent playing time with the Islanders, the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks and the Senators.

Internationally, Hamonic helped Canada to a silver medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Saskatoon by tying for third among team defenceman with three points (one goal, two assists) while skating in each of his team's six tournament games.
