OTT@BOS: Stutzle rips in a one-timer on the rush for a short-handed goal

Tim Stutzle had two first-period goals and an assist for the Ottawa Senators, who defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 at TD Garden in Boston on Monday.

Michael Amadio had a goal and assist, and Drake Batherson also scored for the Senators (2-0-0). Linus Ullmark made 10 saves through two periods but served as the backup in the third. Samuel Ersson made eight saves in his Ottawa debut after being acquired in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 26.

James Hagens scored his second NHL goal, and Jeremy Swayman finished with 20 saves for the Bruins (2-2-0), who went 0-for-4 on the power play. 

Stutzle scored twice in a span of 1:43 for a two-goal lead. 

He made it 1-0 with a short-handed goal at 7:39. Boston mismanaged the puck, and Amadio intercepted a pass and quickly created a 2-on-1. Stutzle received a backhand pass at the right hash marks and beat Swayman with a one-timer high to the stick side. 

Stutzle then made it 2-0 at 9:22, three seconds after a Boston power play expired. He stole a pass, broke in on a 2-on-1 and elected to shoot from the left face-off circle. He fanned on the attempt but regained control of the puck and beat Swayman to the short side. 

Batherson extended the lead to 3-0 at 1:06 of the second period. Stutzle forced a turnover in his own zone and sent a pass ahead to Batherson, who beating Swayman on a breakaway with the backhand. 

The Senators increased their lead to 4-0 on Amadio’s goal at 5:19. He scored with a one-timer in the low slot off Shane Pinto’s backhand feed after a failed breakout by the Bruins. 

Hagens cut it to 4-1 with an unassisted goal at 3:30 of the third period. Ersson misplayed the puck in the corner, and Hagens sent a pass to the front of the net intended for Matthew Poitras, but the puck deflected in off a sliding Ersson.
