Gare, Barnes chat with Talley, Alexander in 'Captains Circle' finale

The series finale of "Captains Circle," presented by Labatt Blue Light, will feature four former Buffalo Sabres and Bills captains whose tenures span nearly 50 years of Buffalo sports history.

Airing Sunday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. on the Sabres YouTube channel and Facebook page as well as the Bills YouTube channel and Facebook page, as well as, Sabres alumni Stu Barnes and Danny Gare will discuss their leadership styles with Bills alumni Lorenzo Alexander and Darryl Talley.

Selected by the Sabres in the second round of the 1974 NHL Draft, Gare made an immediate impact in Buffalo, scoring 31 goals in his rookie season. He is a two-time 50-goal scorer who led the NHL with 56 goals in 1975-76. In his Sabres career, he recorded 500 points (267+233) in 503 games. Gare was named captain prior to the 1977-78 season and wore the "C" until he was traded to Detroit in December 1981. He was inducted into the Sabres Hall of Fame in 1994 and in 2005, Gare was forever enshrined in Sabres history when his No. 18 was retired to the rafters.

Barnes, who joined the team in the leadup to the 1999 Stanley Cup Playoffs, quickly earned the respect of his teammates. "Stuuuu" posted 10 points in 21 games in Buffalo's run to the Final that year and followed it up with a 20-goal campaign the following season. He was named captain for the 2001-02 and served for parts of two seasons. He retired in 2008 and currently serves as a pro scout for the Seattle Kraken.

Joining the Bills in 2016, Alexander, already a seasoned NFL veteran, quickly established himself as a leader in the locker room and champion in the community. The linebacker earned several accolades during his four-season stint with the Bills, including an All-Pro Second-Team selection in 2016, a season in which he amassed 12.5 sacks, and a 2017 Pro Bowl nod, where he was named the 2017 Pro Bowl Defensive MVP. Well-respected by his teammates, Alexander was also voted as a captain in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was named the Bills Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee three consecutive times.

A Bills second-round pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, Talley, who was nicknamed "Spider-Man" because of the iconic suit he'd often wear under his uniform, was an integral piece of Buffalo's defensive unit for over a decade. A natural leader, Talley proved himself invaluable throughout the team's Super Bowl runs of the early '90s. Taking the field with Legends like Bruce Smith and Cornelius Bennett, the linebacker earned national recognition when he was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1990 and 1991. A 2003 Bills Wall of Fame inductee and a member of the 2007 Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, Talley's name also appears beside team records for most regular season games played (6th) and most sacks (8th).

Each bringing a unique perspective to the conversation, the Buffalo greats will rewind to the past as they discuss their leadership styles and career highlights with hosts Maddy Glab and Brian Duff.
