EDMONTON, AB - On Thursday, Nov. 4 and Friday, Nov. 5, the Edmonton Oilers organization will honour Oilers great Kevin Lowe and acknowledge his incredible career accomplishments on and off the ice, including his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2020.
The celebrations will be highlighted by a gala dinner on Thursday and the raising of Lowe's number 4 to the rafters of Rogers Place when the Oilers host the New York Rangers on Friday.
Oilers alumni as well as Lowe's friends and family will be in attendance at the gala, including Grammy Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan, who will dedicate a performance to the man of the hour. Also on the agenda will be a hot-stove discussion with Lowe and his former teammates, who will tell stories from his Hall of Fame career.
The game day will begin with the Oilers unveiling Lowe's Hockey Hall of Fame honoured member plaque, which will be displayed in the Oilers Hall of Room at Rogers Place. The ceremony will be hosted by Oilers Media Wall of Honour inductee, Tim Spelliscy, who covered the Oilers throughout the club's Stanley Cup victories and Lowe's career in orange and blue. Lanny McDonald will also attend the ceremony on behalf of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Celebrations will be capped off that night as Lowe's number 4 is raised to the rafters of Rogers Place during a pre-game on-ice ceremony. The Oilers vs. Rangers game time will be moved to 7:30 PM MT to accommodate the ceremony, which will take place prior to pre-game warmup.
The timeline for the game is as follows:
In honour of Lowe's many notable community and off-ice contributions, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) will allocate net proceeds from the Nov. 5 online 50/50 to four beneficiaries which are important to the Lowe family. The beneficiaries will also benefit from proceeds generated from the Nov. 4 gala, including the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton, Zebra Child Protection Centre, Sarah McLachlan School of Music and North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper.
