POST-GAME UPDATES
Inside The Oilers Blog
With 7:08 remaining in the first, Cam Talbot stopped a grade-A chance from Jakob Silverberg in the slot. A turnover gave Silverberg the puck all alone in front of Talbot and the goaltender squared up and kept the game scoreless.
The Oilers had their fair share of chances in the first period too. By the end of the opening 20 minutes, Edmonton trailed in shots 8-7 and had six attempts blocked.
Off the opening draw of the second period, Edmonton crashed the Anaheim crease for a scoring opportunity to kick off the frame.
Edmonton got the first power play of the game at 3:22 of the second when Josh Manson went to the box for hooking. The Oilers were surging to start the second, with four shots to none for Anaheim before that penalty. On the man advantage, Drake Caggiula scored his first NHL goal.
Pat Maroon fed Caggiula a pass from the wall and the rookie from the University of North Dakota sniped it. Jordan Eberle recorded the second assist.
The Pacific Division rivalry came to a boil at 9:33 of the second when Milan Lucic and Jared Boll dropped the gloves and started swinging. The two received five minutes for fighting and play resumed with the Oilers holding a 1-0 lead.
Ryan Kesler evened the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal at 9:28 of the second.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins took back the lead at 13:35 of the middle frame, sniping a shot from the top of the circle. Chants of "Nuge!" filtered down from the stands as the Oilers centre scored his first goal since November 23.
The Ducks potted the equalizer at 9:42 of the third. Rickard Rakell was left alone with space on the backside and he fired a shot past Talbot.
In a tie game with 45 seconds remaining, the Ducks were gifted a power play when Edmonton was called for too many men on the ice. The Oilers were able to hang on to send the game to overtime. They were also able to weather the storm of pressure in the opening minute of the extra frame.
The Oilers rejoiced at 3:16 of overtime when Andrej Sekera sauced a pass in front of the net and Draisatil one-touched it past the goalie. With the game-winner, Draisaitl now has 13 points in his last 10 games.
Edmonton improved their home record to .500, as they moved to 6-6-0 at Rogers Place this season. The Oilers close out the tail end of this back-to-back by hosting the Minnesota Wild, Sunday evening.
