EDMONTON, AB - Despite their defeat to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers, the Oilers could emerge from the 2019-20 season with a decent consolation prize thanks to tonight's NHL Draft Lottery.

Each of the eight teams who were eliminated in the Qualifying Round will have a 12.5% chance of landing the first-overall selection in the 2020 NHL Draft that is tentatively scheduled for October 9-10.

Phase 2 of the NHL Draft Lottery will be held on Monday (4pm MT, Sportsnet) and the Oilers will hold either the first, 14th or 15th pick in the first round, depending on the lottery results.

Edmonton will select first if they win Phase 2 of the lottery, 14th if either Florida, Minnesota, Nashville, New York, Toronto or Winnipeg wins the lottery, or 15th if Pittsburgh wins the lottery.

The Oilers finished second to the Penguins in points percentage among the eligible teams, thus they would move to the 15th pick if Pittsburgh was the lucky team to snag the first-overall selection.
