EDMONTON, AB - After playing only three games in 18 days, the Oilers will play 14 in 27 during the month of February.
It's yet another oddity of the 2017-18 schedule, in a campaign filled with matinee tilts, intermittent breaks and back-to-backs.
"The schedule is what it is," said Oilers forward Mark Letestu. "You can't change it. Our coaches are managing our practices, trying to keep the tempo high when you're not practicing. But you have to lean on your strength and conditioning guys. Getting the workouts in and doing what you need to do to be ready. The actual in-game rust that kind of develops, there's nothing you can do about it. You have to let your mind take over and be smart when your legs or your lungs aren't where they need to be."
Letestu is looking forward to the month of February. He prefers playing every other day and has his reasons for that.
