WPG@CGY: Giordano's one-timer deflects in for PPG

CALGARY -- The Calgary Flames ended their season-long four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Andrew Mangiapane broke a tie in the third period for the Flames (16-17-3), who scored four goals during their skid. David Rittich made 22 saves.
"It's huge for us, obviously," Rittich said. "We can't look at the standings or how many games remaining. We have to play every single game to win. That's the way we have to look at it and how we have to play."

Logan Stanley scored his first NHL goal for the Jets (21-12-2), who had won three in a row. Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves.
It was the second of a three-game series; Winnipeg won 3-2 on Friday. The teams will play here again Monday.
"I don't know this to be a fact, but it feels like we're if not the best, one of the best third-period teams in the NHL," Jets captain Blake Wheeler said. "Our goal after the first period was to win the second and give ourselves a chance because we are a good third period team. It just wasn't the night tonight."
Mangiapane's shot from the left face-off circle deflected off Jets defenseman Tucker Poolman and under Brossoit's right pad 49 seconds into the third to give Calgary a 3-2 lead.
Sam Bennett made it 4-2 at 7:48 with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that went off Brossoit's stick and trickled over the goal line.
"We finally caught a break," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "We haven't had much puck luck at all this whole stretch. We haven't had any puck luck. When you don't have a lot of that pure goal scorer, you need to get that break once and a while, and we got it."
Josh Leivo scored on a rebound from the edge of the crease to put give Calgary a 1-0 lead at 17:13 of the first period.

WPG@CGY: Stanley goes top shelf for first career goal

Mark Giordano made it 2-0 with a slap shot from the point that deflected off Mason Appleton for a power-play goal at 19:14.
The Flames outshot the Jets 16-7 in the first period.
"We're fighting for our season," Calgary forward Johnny Gaudreau said. "Every game's important; we can't afford to lose any games. We take it one game at a time, but looking at the standings, we can't afford to lose. It's nice to get a win."
Appleton's shot from the high slot deflected off Flames forward Milan Lucic and past Rittich 34 seconds into the second period to cut it to 2-1.
Stanley tied it 2-2 at 6:19 when he took a pass from Kyle Connor and shot over Rittich's shoulder from the right circle.
The 6-foot-7 defenseman was a first-round pick (No. 18) by Winnipeg at the 2016 NHL Draft. The goal came in his 23rd game with the Jets.
"It's a pretty good feeling to get that one," Stanley said. "It's something you dream of as a kid, playing your first NHL game, and scoring a goal in the NHL. That was pretty cool. I would've liked a better result for the team, but we'll come back Monday with another good game."
