Maple Leafs team scope

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews, the No. 1 pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, faces the No. 2 pick, Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine, for the first time in the NHL. "I think as players you don't really think about it too much," Matthews said. "It's not really a comparison. It's your team against theirs." Matthews, who scored four goals in his first NHL game, against the Ottawa Senators last Wednesday, said he can appreciate why there is a perceived rivalry between himself and Laine and the big stage their game Wednesday presents. "I think you have to enjoy that moment. But at the same time it's one of 80 more games we have to play," he said. "I don't think either side is making too much of it. We came here to get two points."

Jets team scope

Goaltender Michael Hutchinson gets his second start of the season as the Winnipeg Jets continue to rotate their goaltending tandem to start the season. Hutchinson allowed four goals on 31 shots in a 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck allowed three goals on 24 shots in a 4-1 loss against the Boston Bruins on Monday. "We got two younger goalies and we got faith in both of them," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "We needed to put them in position to play and play meaningful games. We got a young team. I guess that changes every game, we get a little bit older. But that's who we are. That's what we have to deal with." Maurice said he liked Hellebuyck's game against the Bruins. "[Hutchinson] is going to get a chance to do that again tonight. We're going to play this year with the expectation of really strong goaltending."
