New beard, who’s this?
After over a decade of keeping up with his trademark facial hair, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns showed up to training camp on Wednesday sporting a brand new (and hard to recognize) look.
A clean-shaven Burns talked to the media at camp, just two weeks before the Avs start their season against the LA Kings on Wed. Sept. 30 (10 p.m. ET; TNT, truTV, HBO MAX).
To go along with his fresh beard, the veteran defenseman came in with a fresh haircut and brand new front teeth.
Burns is entering his 23rd season in the League, and while he didn’t have much facial hair as an 18-year-old starting his NHL career back in 2003, it quickly became one of his defining features.
By 2016, his beard had prompted a Chia Pet giveaway while he was with the San Jose Sharks.
Burns has currently played over 1,000 consecutive games in the NHL (many with his long beard), an achievement he reached towards the end of last season.
The streak began in 2013 and is currently still active. Burns is 57 games away from Phil Kessel’s all-time record of 1,064 consecutive games played.
