CALGARY -- Brian Boyle and Alex Killorn each scored twice, and Ben Bishop made 19 saves to help the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 6-3 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday.
Braydon Coburn and Andrej Sustr also scored, and Victor Hedman and Valtteri Filppula had three assists each for the Lightning (15-13-2), who won for the second time in the nine games (2-6-1).

"We simplified our game is what we did," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "We skated. We've had a bad habit of trying to place the puck in the net. … There's always a better play to be made. We shot the puck a lot more tonight. We played all three zones as five. That really helped our attack and helped us."

Troy Brouwer, TJ Brodie and Micheal Ferland scored for the Flames (16-14-2), whose season-high six-game winning streak ended.
"This isn't easy," Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan said. "You hope you create these runs and we got ourselves back above board, but it's a lesson here, too. You can't take your foot off the gas at all, you can't lose little battles, you can't lose faceoffs at the rate we were, which caused us a lot of trouble and disrupted our team a little bit."
Brouwer scored 3:06 into the game, but Boyle scored twice in 3:38 to give the Lightning a 2-1 lead. He tipped a point shot past Flames goalie Chad Johnson at 10:04 and deked Johnson at 13:42.
Hedman assisted on each Boyle goal to reach 250 NHL points in his 500th NHL game.

"[Hedman was] heads up on both plays," Boyle said. "[Hedman] was a monster tonight. He's such a huge part of our team."
Coburn scored his first goal in 102 games, dating to Oct. 23, 2015, to give Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead at 4:40 of the second period, and Sustr made it 4-1 at 18:47 with his first goal since April 5, 2016 -- a span of 32 games.
"It really lifts the guys up on the bench because guys are really pulling for those guys," Cooper said. "You can just tell there's a weight off their shoulders because it makes them feel a part of things."
Killorn shot his own rebound by Brian Elliott to put Tampa Bay up 5-1 37 seconds into the third period. Elliott replaced Johnson to start the period.
Calgary scored 21 seconds apart to cut the lead to 5-3. Brodie's point shot through a screen beat Bishop at 3:59, and Ferland scored at 4:20.
Killorn scored into an empty net with 44.6 seconds remaining.

Save of the game

Bishop made a pad save on Sam Bennett's shot on a 2-on-1 less than a minute after Ferland scored to cut Tampa Bay's lead to 5-3. "Even when they got those bang-bang goals in the third, to come up with that save on Bennett. Who knows what happens if that goes in." Cooper said.

Unsung performance of the game

Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman backchecked to negate Ferland's breakaway 3:30 into the second period with Tampa Bay leading 2-1.

Highlight of the game

Boyle worked a quick give-and-go with Filppula to get behind Calgary's defense and deked to the backhand to lift the puck over Johnson for his second goal of the first period.
"Get back in the play, come up together, play fast," Boyle said. "[Hedman] moves it up. [Filppula] close support. You find yourself on a breakaway. Those are always nice to have."

They said it

"It's never a perfect game but we made some strides tonight. There's going to be things we can work on and adjust to. We're not going to score five with an empty-net [goal]. We gave up some chances and [Bishop] was huge at key times in the game. Everybody did their job. Everybody chipped in. Overall, it's a satisfying win." -- Lightning forward Brian Boyle
"It's a great League and it's hard to go on long win streaks, so ultimately that's going to happen and it's just a matter of us refocusing, regrouping and bouncing back for next game." -- Flames forward Sam Bennett
