Super 16 Blue Jackets 11.11

The Carolina Hurricanes are the first unanimous No. 1 in the weekly Super 16 power rankings this season.

The Hurricanes are No. 1 for the second straight week after receiving top billing from all 14 participating staff members.
The Florida Panthers are again No. 2. The Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues have changed places, with the Oilers moving up to No. 3 and the Blues down to No. 4.
The Minnesota Wild are up four spots to No. 6 and the Columbus Blue Jackets are in the Super 16 this week at No. 12.
To create the NHL.com power rankings, each of the 14 participating staff members put together his or her version of what they think it should look like. Those were submitted and a point total assigned to each.
The team that was selected first was given 16 points, second got 15, third 14 and so on down to No. 16, who got one point.
Here is the Super 16:

1. Carolina Hurricanes (10-1-0)

Total points: 224
Last week: No. 1
The Hurricanes have allowed an NHL-low three goals in the third period while scoring 14. They have also scored at least one power-play goal in eight of their 11 games. Forward Teuvo Teravainen's next goal will be the 100th of his NHL career. He has played 460 games.

2. Florida Panthers (10-2-1)

Total points: 204
Last week: No. 2
The Panthers have lost two consecutive games in regulation, 4-3 at the New York Rangers on Monday and 7-3 at the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, after starting the season with points in 11 straight. Forward Sam Bennett returned to the lineup against the Devils after missing four games with an upper-body injury.

3. Edmonton Oilers (9-2-0)

Total points: 190
Last week: No. 4
Connor McDavid has scored points in each of the Oilers' 11 games this season. He is tied with teammate Leon Draisaitl for the NHL lead with 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists). Draisaitl has 10 goals and 13 assists. He has points in nine of Edmonton's 11 games.

4. St. Louis Blues (8-2-1)

Total points: 177
Last week: No. 3
Special teams have been a big factor in their early-season success. St. Louis is the only NHL team that's top five on the power play (second, 33.3 percent) and penalty kill (tied for third, 88.9 percent).

5. Calgary Flames (7-2-3)

Total points: 158
Last week: No. 5
The Flames had a plus-21 goal differential (38-17), went 9-for-34 (26.5 percent) on the power play and 28-for-30 (90.0 percent) on the penalty kill, and goalie Jacob Markstrom was 5-0-3 with four shutouts during Calgary's 10-game point streak (7-0-3) that ended with a 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

6. Minnesota Wild (9-3-0)

Total points: 144

The Wild have allowed the first goal in seven of their 12 games. They are 5-2-0 in those games. Minnesota also is 4-0-0 in games when it was tied entering the third period.

7. Tampa Bay Lightning (6-3-3)

Total points: 135
Last week: No. 7
The Lightning have allowed four goals in the first period, second in the NHL behind the New York Islanders (three). But they've allowed 19 in the third, last entering Wednesday.

8. Washington Capitals (6-2-4)

Total points: 129
Last week: No. 6
Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL with 11 goals, and the 36-year-old forward is third in scoring with 21 points. He is tied with Hockey Hall of Fame forward Brett Hull for fourth in NHL history with 741 goals.

9. Philadelphia Flyers (6-3-2)

Total points: 103
Last week: No. 11
The Flyers have scored the first goal in seven of their 11 games. They are 6-0-1 in those games. Their ability to score first this season is greatly improved from last season, when they did so in 23 of 56 games (41.1 percent).

10. Winnipeg Jets (6-3-3)

Total points: 79
Last week: No. 8
Kyle Connor has scored points in nine of the Jets' 12 games. The forward is fourth in the NHL with 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) and is tied with Ovechkin and Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi for the NHL lead with eight even-strength goals.

11. New York Rangers (7-3-3)

Total points: 77
Last week: No. 9
Left wing Chris Kreider leads the NHL with six power-play goals. That's one more than Kreider, center Mika Zibanejad and left wing Artemi Panarin have combined to score at 5-on-5. Goalie Igor Shesterkin has been arguably New York's best player, going 6-2-2 with a 2.37 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and one shutout.

12. Columbus Blue Jackets (7-3-0)

Total points: 53
Last week: NR
The Blue Jackets are 4-0-0 in games decided after the third period (3-0 in overtime and 1-0 in the shootout). It's one of their biggest improvements from last season, when they were 6-12 in such games (3-9 in overtime, 3-3 in the shootout).

13. New York Islanders (5-3-2)

Total points: 52
Last week: No. 12
The Islanders have allowed an NHL-low three goals in the first period. They have three more road games left before their home opener against the Flames at UBS Arena on Nov. 20.

14. Boston Bruins (6-4-0)

Total points: 46
Last week: No. 14
The Bruins are 5-0-0 at home and 1-4-0 on the road. A big difference in the home and road split is special teams. At home, the Bruins are 35.3 percent (6-for-17) on the power play and 89.5 percent (17-for-19) on the penalty kill. On the road, they're 14.3 percent with the man-advantage (2-for-14) and 68.8 percent (11-for-16) on the PK.

15. San Jose Sharks (7-4-1)

Total points: 34
Last week: No. 15
Jonathan Dahlen has scored three goals in his past four games. The forward's six goals are tied with Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond for the lead among rookies, and Dahlen leads all first-year players with two game-winning goals. Defenseman Brent Burns has scored eight points (one goal, seven assists) during an active five-game point scoring streak. He had three assists in San Jose's first seven games.

16. Toronto Maple Leafs (8-5-1)

Total points: 23
Last week: No. 16
Forwards Mitchell Marner and John Tavares each had a six-game point streak end Wednesday in a 3-0 win at the Flyers. Marner was held without a point against Philadelphia; he scored 12 points (three goals, nine assists) during his streak. Tavares did not play against the Flyers because of an undisclosed injury; he scored 10 points (six goals, four assists) during his streak. Goalie Petr Mrazek is out at least another three weeks with a groin injury.
