Stamkos

Steven Stamkos could return to the Tampa Bay Lightning during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, general manager Julien BriseBois told The Athletic on Tuesday.

The forward has not played since Feb. 25. A lower-body injury sustained before training camp began July 13 has kept Stamkos out this postseason.
"He's out indefinitely, but he has not been ruled out for a return in these playoffs," BriseBois said. "As [Lightning coach Jon Cooper] has said, we will provide an update when there is one."
Cooper did not speak to the media Wednesday.
The Lightning will play the New York Islanders or Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Final at Rogers Place in Edmonton, the hub city for the conference finals and Stanley Cup Final. Tampa Bay eliminated the Boston Bruins from the second round with a 3-2 double-overtime win in Game 5 of the best-of-7 series at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, the Eastern hub city, on Monday.
Stamkos, who had surgery to repair a core muscle injury March 2 and missed the final five games before the NHL season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, participated in some drills with the top power-play unit during camp. The Lightning captain did not go through a full practice until the team arrived in Toronto on July 26.
"Anytime you have a surgery there's going to be things that are certainly connected with one another," Stamkos said July 27. "There was a stretch for 4-5 weeks when I was skating when I was feeling really good. Obviously, there was no contact and no game-like situations during that time, so I was feeling good.
"Then I hit a little rut. Definitely all related ..."
Stamkos was second on the Lightning with 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) in 57 games during the regular season, behind forward Nikita Kucherov, who scored 85 points (33 goals, 52 assists) in 68 games.
There was also no update on Kucherov, who left Game 5 against Boston after he was hit in the face by a stick from Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara, who was assessed a double minor. Kucherov returned for the start of the second period but left again with 6:55 remaining.
