Small But Mighty: 8-year-old girl goes top shelf at Capitals game

It may have looked like Alex Ovechkin on a breakaway, but the long, blonde ponytail hanging out of the helmet was the first clue that it wasn't him.
It was, in fact, an 8-year-old girl named Rachel Steward.

But forgive us for mistaking her skills for the Washington Capitals superstar. The young player left the pack in her dust and scored a highlight-reel goal at the Mites on Ice game during the first intermission of the Washington Capitals game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Steward, who plays for the York Devils in York, Pennsylvania, deked around Capitals mascot Slapshot before pulling away from the pack, which included a hard-charging backchecker. She completed the play with a top-shelf snipe over the goalie's glove.
Can you say peanut butter?
Steward appeared unfazed when watching the replay of the goal, even after the crowd released an audible "oooh" after the game.
With hands like that and composure to finish, Steward might be available at the NHL Trade Deadline. She just might need to ask her parents' permission first.
