Brind'Amour channels Eddie Murphy in Game 7 locker room speech

Rod Brind'Amour's postgame speech to the Carolina Hurricanes after an exhausting Game 7, double overtime win to knock off the defending Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals started out like any coach's would.

He paced around the room, at first at a loss for words, and then he found some to relive the Hurricanes' early 2-0 deficit.
"You get kicked in the ding ding right after the start…"
Wait, what?
"I've been saying it all year, actually, at different times," the Hurricanes coach said Friday. "I didn't know what else to say."

The line, from the legendary 1987 stand-up comedy film, "Eddie Murphy Raw," was quite the reference to pull out in that setting.
"I love 'Eddie Murphy Raw,' to be honest with you, but that is where it's from and that's how I felt at the time," Brind'Amour said.
The movie begins with a sketch of a young Murphy, played by Deon Washington, delivering a joke about a monkey and a lion to his family members in the living room.
When he gets to the punchline, "And then he kicked him the ding ding," the camera cuts back to his relatives who are silent with their mouths agape, except for one, Samuel L. Jackson, who proudly proclaims that the boy's got talent.
In the Hurricanes locker room, none of the players even cracked a smile, but that doesn't mean the joke didn't land.
"We were just tired," forward Justin Williams said. "Roddy's got a lot of things we sometimes giggle at, but that's what makes him unique and fun."
