Recap: Islanders 4, Oilers 1

Josh Ho-Sang etched a lasting memory and the New York Islanders erased a bad one with a strong rebound win topping the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 on Tuesday night at Rogers Place.
Ho-Sang scored his first-career NHL goal, while Anders Lee netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the Islanders won in Edmonton for the first time in nearly 14 years. Lee's 25th of the season tied his career-high and gave him the outright team lead, while the Islanders improved to 4-2-1 on their nine-game road trip, assuring themselves a .500 finish.
"Great response, great road win," Interim Coach Doug Weight said. "We played with energy and played the game plan the whole night. Great win."

Ho-Sang scored his first NHL goal on Tuesday, one-timing a Thomas Hickey feed from the top of the zone through traffic and past Cam Talbot at 17:23. Ho-Sang's power-play goal gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead after the first period, but was a highlight that will play on his personal reel forever.
"There are no words to describe it," Ho-Sang said sporting the vintage leather jacket given to the player of the game. "It's such a relief to score and makes you feel like you belong and that things are possible. All of your dreams are coming true in front of your eyes, which is cool. It was a very special moment."

But the Oilers tried to spoil Ho-Sang's night. Zack Kassian answered for the Oilers early in the second, tipping Matt Benning's wrister past Thomas Greiss at 2:58, tying the score 1-1.
Kassian's goal turned the tide for the Oilers, but Greiss - making his eighth straight start - held firm for the Islanders, preserving the 1-1 tie with some highlight reel saves in the second. The German goalie lunged across his net to rob Leon Draisaitl on a nifty setup from Connor McDavid and Thomas Hickey also thwarted an Oilers chance, getting a stick on a Patrick Maroon tap-in.

The big saves buoyed the Islanders through the Oilers push and set the stage for Lee's go-ahead goal. Lee wrestled for inside position on Oscar Klefbom, spinning off the defenseman before potting a rebound for his 24th goal of the season.

"We were really good tonight," Lee said. "They are still going to get a lot of opportunities, but we limited them as much as possible and played a tightknit game, especially on the road in a building like this with their team."
The Islanders added to their lead in the third, as Andrew Ladd potted a pretty backhand feed from Brock Nelson for his 18th goal in the season and 10th in his past 20 games. Lee iced the game with an empty-netter with a minute to play.
