Tocchet on Raanta, Goaltending

ABOUT THE 'YOTES:
• With a four-game road trip vs. Eastern Conference teams looming, the Coyotes will attempt to rebound from a 4-2 loss vs. Washington on Thursday.
• Adin Hill, who suffered his first loss of the season vs. the Caps, will make his fifth straight start in goal. Since Nov. 27, Hill leads all NHL goaltenders with a .956 save percentage and a 1.16 goals-against average. Antti Raanta, who has been sidelined the past four games because of a lower-body injury, has been placed on the injured reserve list. Darcy Kuemper, who has been practicing with teammates, is close to returning from a lower-body injury. Calvin Pickard will be Hill's backup vs. the Sharks.
• Tonight's game is the first of four games the Coyotes will play vs. San Jose this season. Arizona has earned 11 of a possible 18 points in games played vs. the Sharks over the past two seasons.

• Arizona will play minus forward Vinnie Hinostroza, who suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday's game vs. Washington. Conor Garland, whom the Coyotes recalled from the American Hockey League before Thursday's game, will replace Hinostroza in the lineup and play on a line with center Derek Stepan and winger Christian Fischer.
"I'm obviously excited," Garland said. "It's what you work your whole life for, is to play in the NHL, so it's nice it's here, but this team's in the middle of trying to win some games and trying to make a push here for playoffs. I'll just try to be here and help them win some games."

Yotes Bites: Home-Ice Advantage

Garland led the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners with 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 18 games at the time he was called up to the NHL.
Clayton Keller leads the Coyotes in points (18) and goals (eight). Oliver Ekman-Larsson is tops with 13 assists.
• Nick Schmaltz is averaging a point per game over five games since coming to the Coyotes in a trade with the Blackhawks on Nov. 25. Arizona is 4-1-0 since that deal; Chicago is 0-6-0.
Lawson Crouse will enter the game with a two-game goal-scoring streak. Crouse has notched a career-high six goals this season in just 26 games. He also leads the team and ranks tied for 13th among NHL forwards with 73 hits.
ABOUT THE SHARKS:
• San Jose lost to Dallas, 3-2, on Friday night at American Airlines Center, ending the team's modest two-game winning streak ... With 33 points, the Sharks are in fourth place in the Pacific Division standings, five points behind first-place Calgary ... San Jose averages 35.1 shots per game, which ranks third in the NHL ... Brent Burns leads the team with 29 points and 25 assists ... Joe Pavelski is San Jose's top goal scorer with 18. He's scored five goals in his past six games ... Logan Couture will enter the game riding a three-game point streak ... Erik Karlsson has notched two goals and 16 assists in his first season with the Sharks ... Martin Jones played Friday, so look for Aaron Dell to start vs. Arizona. He's 3-0-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage vs. the Coyotes in his career.
'YOTES QUOTES:
• "They've got (Erik) Karlsson and (Brent) Burns on the back end, who can skate and make plays, so we've got to make sure that we're coming back hard and defending their rushes. We've got to be ready for a high-speed game tonight and make sure we're ready to go from the start ... You always want to be good on home ice. I think you've got to take pride in playing in front of your fans. Having your own bed and stuff like that is an advantage. So, it would be nice to get two points here before we got out on a little bit of a road trip." -- Nick Schmaltz
• "Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. You hope for a limited amount of them, but sometimes they stack up pretty quickly and at not the greatest times. We've got a good group of guys down in Tucson who are all capable of coming up and filling in, and obviously for the guys here, maybe there are some more minutes available when someone goes down and you have to take advantage of it." -- Kevin Connauton
• "I'll just play the same way I do down there (in the AHL). Hunt pucks, backtrack, play fast. I think that's what this team wants to do here is play fast, and I think I can do that." -- Conor Garland
