Dominique Ducharme's squad secured a historic triumph on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena, besting the Maple Leafs 3-1 and completing the comeback from being down 3-1 in the series to advance to Round 2. Right-winger Brendan Gallagher opened the scoring with his first goal of the playoffs in the second period. Veteran Corey Perry doubled Montreal's lead just 2:23 later on the power play. Right-winger Tyler Toffoli capped the scoring with an empty-netter, lighting the lamp for a second straight game. For his part, goaltender Carey Price stopped 30 of 31 shots in the win. It was the third time in franchise history that the Canadiens managed to overcome a 3-1 series deficit. Montreal previously accomplished the feat in 2004 against the Boston Bruins (Round 1) and 2010 against the Washington Capitals (Round 1).
With Monday night's win over Toronto, veterans Eric Staal and Joel Edmundson improved to 5-0 in Game 7 matchups over the course of their respective careers.
The Canadiens advanced to the second round for the first time since 2015. It will also be the first playoff series between Montreal and Winnipeg in NHL history.

At the top of his game:Price was a rock for the Canadiens against Toronto, finishing the series with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage with the likes of Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner coming at him. Over the course of his career, the 33-year-old Anahim Lake, BC native has certainly delivered in critical games. Price improved his record to 3-1 in Game 7 scenarios, and has compiled an impressive 1.47 goals-against average, a .950 save percentage and one shutout under those circumstances. His three Game 7 victories (2008, 2014, 2021) tie him with Ken Dryden for the top spot in franchise history. Price faced the Jets four times during the regular season, compiling a 2-1-1 record, along with a 3.01 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.

On a role:Perry and Nick Suzuki are both riding three-game point streaks. Perry's goal in Game 7 ultimately proved to be the game-winner. The Peterborough, ON native became the seventh oldest player in NHL history (36 years, 15 days) to score a game-winning goal in a Game 7. The former first-round selection of the Anaheim Ducks has four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in the playoffs this year. For his part, Suzuki assisted on Perry's tally and also boasts four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in seven playoff appearances.

Key acquisitions:General manager Marc Bergevin's moves have paid dividends for Montreal. During the seventh and deciding game against Toronto, several newcomers registered their names on the scoresheet. Eric Staal, Erik Gustafsson, Perry and Toffoli combined for five points (2 goals, 3 assists). Toffoli leads Montreal with five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in the playoffs, while Staal (4 assists) ranks second alongside Suzuki, Perry and Joel Armia (2 goals, 2 assists). Neverthless, Ducharme would like to get more offense from his defensemen as Jeff Petry (1 assist) and Gustafsson (1 assist) are the only two blueliners to register points in the opening round.

The Jets haven't played since May 24 when they completed a first-round series sweep of the Edmonton Oilers, so Paul Maurice's contingent is well-rested. Three of those victories over Edmonton came in overtime, including the series-clincher when left-winger Kyle Connor sealed the deal after 106:52 of high-intensity hockey. Veteran Paul Stastny scored the OT-winner in Game 2, while left-winger Nikolaj Ehlers was the hero in Game 3.

Connor Hellebuyck leads the League with a 1.60 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage in the playoffs. The Commerce, MI native notably registered a 38-save effort in Game 2 versus Edmonton to collect the shutout. In 31 career postseason games, Hellebuyck has a 16-15 record, along with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. The former fifth-round pick of Winnipeg made nine starts against Montreal during the regular season, posting a 6-3-0 record, a 2.67 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage, along with one shutout.

Captain Blake Wheeler and centreman Mark Scheifele lead the Jets with five points each (2 goals, 3 assists). For his part, Connor ranks second with four points (2 goals, 2 assists). Playoff performer:Scheifele clearly loves playoff hockey. The 28-year-old centreman has 18 career postseason goals with Winnipeg, which is tops in team history. The former first-round pick of the Jets has 31 points (18 goals, 13 assists) in 32 playoff games. For his part, Stastny is the most experienced Jets player in terms of postseason play. The 35-year-old has appeared in 101 career playoff games, amassing 69 points (26 goals, 43 assists).
