Pekka Rinne 11.3

Pekka Rinne signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Nashville Predators on Saturday. It has an average annual value of $5 million. Rinne will make $6 million next season and $4 million in 2020-21.

Rinne, who turned 36 on Saturday, won the Vezina Trophy in 2017-18. He is 5-1-0 with a 1.63 goals-against average and .948 save percentage in seven games this season. He could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
"Pekka Rinne has been the most impactful player our franchise has ever had, both on the ice as one of the NHL's best goaltenders, and off the ice as a leader in the community," Predators general manager David Poile said. "Both the organization and Pekka want him to play his entire career with the Predators, and this helps accomplish that objective, while also stabilizing our goaltending for at least the next two seasons beyond 2018-19. We feel the tandem of Pekka and Juuse Saros is among the best in the League."
Rinne said in recent weeks that he wanted to remain with the Predators through the end of his career.
"We both had the same goal," he said. "[We all] knew that I wanted to stay here. This is my home. I'm very happy we were able to make this deal."
Rinne, who was selected by Nashville in the eighth round (No. 258) in the 2004 NHL Draft, is its all-time leader in numerous goalie categories including games played (574), wins (316), save percentage (.919), GAA (2.36) and shutouts (53).
"We heard about it this morning and guys were so excited and just smiling," defenseman Roman Josi said. "[Rinne] is such a huge part of this locker room, and he's our leader. He's been here for so long. He's such a great guy, and he's the best goaltender in the League. To keep a guy like him around, it's awesome for us."
Hours after signing the contract, Rinne made 26 saves in a 1-0 victory against the Boston Bruins.
"It was a pretty cool day," Rinne said. "I came in this morning and signed a two-year extension, it's my birthday and we got a huge win. I'm very happy, and so proud that I can stay with this organization. They gave me a chance a long time ago, and I'm very fortunate to still be able to chase my dreams."
Rinne is the first goaltender in NHL history to have multiple regular-season shutouts on his birthday. He celebrated his 29th birthday on Nov. 3, 2011, by signing a seven-year contract before making 35 saves in a 3-0 win against the Arizona Coyotes.
