Washington Nationals unveil special Ovechkin bobblehead

The Washington Nations might have already won the award for best bobblehead -- and the season hasn’t even started yet.

On Monday, the MLB team unveiled a special promotion featuring a bobblehead of Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin. The figurine commemorates Ovechkin’s first pitch from the summer of 2018, just after the Capitals won the Stanley Cup.

The Ovechkin figure is wearing a white Nationals jersey with a “Champs” cap and flip flops. It even includes his missing front tooth.

A promotional video posted by the Nationals on social media shows the bobblehead in the Georgetown Waterfront fountain, paying homage to Ovechkin’s classic celebration during that summer of 2018. After winning the Cup, Ovechkin and his teammates jumped into the fountain to celebrate the championship.

That fountain jump came the same night as Ovechkin’s first pitch at Nationals Park.

The giveaway will be on May 16 during the Nationals game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Ovechkin has thrown the first pitch at Nationals Park three times throughout his career.
