As a 10-year-old growing up in New Jersey in 1987-88, for me that team was the New Jersey Devils. It was John MacLean, Kirk Muller, Aaron Broten, Pat Verbeek, Ken Daneyko, Bruce Driver and Sean Burke.

Their red, green and white uniforms, the Christmas tree sweaters, will never be called iconic, but it doesn't matter. Every time I see those old jerseys -- which are in the running for Greatest NHL Uniform -- I remember me, at 10, celebrating when MacLean beat Darren Pang in overtime to give the Devils a 4-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on April 3, 1988. That was the goal that got the Devils into the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time.
It was a huge moment, one of my favorites as a hockey fan. I've long since turned in my Devils' fan card. You can't, or at least you shouldn't, own one of those when you're in my line of work. I root for good stories, great quotes and great games. But when I was 10, those uniforms the Devils wore from 1982-92 are my all-time favorites for nostalgic reasons.
