Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews and his wife, Kerry, had a special favor dedicated to the memory of a loved one for their outdoor wedding on Saturday.

Originally scheduled
for July but postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic
, the couple celebrated their marriage this weekend with some close friends. The wedding party included Toews' former Quinnipiac University teammate, forward Sam Anas, now with the St. Louis Blues organization. Anas lost his mother, Deme, to breast cancer in August.
Each guest at the Toews' wedding was given a card informing them that a donation was made to
Hockey Fights Cancer
, the NHL initiative to help support cancer patients and their families, in the name of Deme Anas.

The card read: "In lieu of a favor, a donation has been made to Hockey Fights Cancer in loving memory of Deme Anas. We feel the greatest gift is one which helps others living with and moving past cancer. We truly appreciate your being part of our special day."
Anas tweeted that it was an "incredible gesture" and that Toews is "always thinking of others even on his big day."
Each November is Hockey Fights Cancer month across the NHL. Through a partnership with the American Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Society and Movember Foundation, donations to Hockey Fights Cancer support people affected by cancer, their families and caregivers.
