Devils warm ups

The New Jersey Devils sported special warmup jerseys to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Night on Friday.

The jerseys were designed by local artist Illkya Acosta. The sweaters' crest features an Inti inspired imagery, the Incan sun deity, around the Devils logo which represents energy, light, empowerment and warmth.

Acosta used the colors pink, red and purple to show "the dance of gratitude, joy, resilience and sacrifice of a Latinx individual or family" and to honor Dia De Los Muertos.

There are two shoulder patches that feature Spanish phrases. One reads "Aqui Estamos" which means "Here we are" and represents the belonging and presence of the Latinx community. The other shoulder reads "Hispanic, Latina, Latino, Latine, Latinx." The phrases represent all those individuals from the Hispanic heritage community that include those from Spanish speaking countries and those countries in Latin America where Spanish is not the main language spoken.
"It's an honor to collaborate with the Devils in recognizing the Latinx and Hispanic people in New Jersey,"
Acosta told the Devils.
"I feel gratified to rep my home state and heritage. I want the community to know that they are valued, seen, heard, and cherished. And I hope that this work can help shed some light, bridge some gaps, and inspire.
The jerseys are set to be auctioned off to benefit La Casa de Don Pedro, a local New Jersey community charity.
