Defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, the ninth pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.
In his first season in North America, Sergachev, a native of Nizhnekamsk, Russia, had 17 goals and 57 points in 67 games with Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League and was named the best defenseman in the OHL.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound defender was No. 8 on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of North American skaters.
Sergachev is the second member of the 2016 draft class to sign an entry-level contract. Pierre-Luc Dubois, the third selection,
signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets
earlier Friday.
