Max Pacioretty 6.2

SAINTE-JULIE, Quebec -- Max Pacioretty said he has not had any negotiations on a contract extension with the Montreal Canadiens this offseason.

The 29-year-old forward, who has been Canadiens captain since Sept. 18, 2015, can become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and has been the subject of trade rumors.
"To be clear, while there have been many discussions over the last two months, there have been no negotiations on a new contract," his agent, Allan Walsh, said on Twitter. "Montreal has not made any offers to this date. Max has stated repeatedly that he loves Montreal and wants to sign a new contract with the Canadiens."

Speaking at his annual charity golf tournament before Walsh sent out his tweet, Pacioretty said he's focused on the upcoming season, which would be his 11th with the Canadiens.
"You know what, I can't control that situation," Pacioretty said. "I've just got to worry about what I can control, and that is out of my control. I think when it comes down to it, whether it's [Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin] or my agent, I'll have discussions that are necessary, but at this point I can't control any of that."

Asked if there had been any recent negotiations toward a contract extension, Pacioretty said, "No, I don't think so."
Bergevin, who took part in the tournament along with coach Claude Julien and owner Geoff Molson, once again declined to discuss whether any negotiations had taken place and said he expected Pacioretty to be at training camp.
"Of course, like every other player," Bergevin said.
Selected by the Canadiens with the No. 22 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, Pacioretty has 448 points (226 goals, 222 assists) in 626 regular-season games and 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) in 38 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has scored at least 30 goals in a season five times, including four straight seasons from 2013-17.
Pacioretty had 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 64 games last season and missed the final 18 games because of a knee injury. It was his fewest goals and points since 2010-11.

"This is life and nothing in life is perfect and smooth," Pacioretty said. "I have no control over that situation, but at the end of the day, you guys know how I feel about living here and I do live here 12 months out of the year. My kids start school tomorrow, and we're really excited about that.
"But oftentimes I get asked about if it's weird to be in this situation, but tons of people around the League are faced with this situation on a yearly basis, it's just mine is so magnified because of where we are and who I am."
The uncertainty about Pacioretty's future is such that he held off planning his annual golf tournament until the last moment.
"I remember that [tournament president] Richard Beaudry had given me a time that he said this is the last possible day that we can decide on it to make it happen for various reasons, sponsors and whatnot," Pacioretty said. "To be honest, I was so preoccupied that I completely had forgotten to reach out to him at that time. And then he had reached out to me, and then once he did I talked to both Allan and a couple of people close to me, and we all agreed that this was the right thing to do.
"I have an obligation as the captain of this team to give back whenever I can."
