Matt-Murray-PIT

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray practiced Monday for the first time since the death of his father.
The Penguins announced Murray had left a road trip in California to go home to Thunder Bay, Ontario, after his father, James, died Tuesday. He hasn't played since Jan. 7.

"Hockey definitely took a back seat for a couple days," Murray said after practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry, Pennsylvania. "But when you're out there, it's kind of a sanctuary."
It is unclear when Murray will be ready to play. Pittsburgh's next game is against the Carolina Hurricanes at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; ATTSN-PT, FS-SE, NHL.TV).
"It's great to see him on the ice and join the team," coach Mike Sullivan said. "I will have a conversation with him this afternoon, but we will take it day by day."
Murray replaced starter Tristan Jarry in the second period of a 6-5 overtime win against the Boston Bruins on Jan. 7, and then the Penguins went on their mandated five-day break.
On Jan. 12, their first day back, the Penguins announced Murray went home to deal with a family matter. He missed a 4-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Jan. 13 and a 5-2 win against the New York Rangers on Jan. 14, each in Pittsburgh.
Murray rejoined the Penguins for their trip to California, but after his father died he missed a 5-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday, a 3-1 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday and a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
"I just want to say a big thanks first of all to Pittsburgh," Murray said. "I want to thank my team. They did a lot for me and helped get me home."
Murray, 23, won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins the past two seasons. He is 15-12-1 with a 2.93 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in 31 games this season.
