Fleury reaches milestone vs. Winnipeg Jets comeback

The 2019-20 NHL season had many incredible moments before it was paused on March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, and now fans can decide which one was the best.

The Greatest Moments of the NHL season … So Far is down to 32 entries from the original bracket of 64 with the first round now complete. Fans will vote on one matchup per day, ultimately deciding the greatest moment up until this point.

Fans can vote on Twitter and Instagram each day from noon until 10 a.m. ET the next day. Each day, the winner of that matchup will be revealed, and a new set of moments will go head-to-head.

Though fans will have the ultimate say, two NHL.com staffers will weigh in on the matchup each day to give his or her opinion on which one should advance to the third round.

In the matchup Friday, Filip Forsberg's lacrosse-style goal for the Nashville Predators defeated the reception St. Louis Blues fans gave defenseman Jay Bouwmeester in his first public appearance at Enterprise Center following his cardiac incident.

The matchup Saturday features Vegas Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury moving into fifth place on the NHL wins list Feb. 6 against the Winnipeg Jets defeating the Calgary Flames in the Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic in Regina, Saskatchewan, on Oct. 26.

A key sequence of this 7-2 win against the Florida Panthers started with a save by Fleury. The score was 1-1 early in the second period when Fleury stopped a shot by Vincent Trocheck from the left wing. If that puck goes in, who knows how the game would have turned out? But it didn't, and Mark Stone went end to end and scored to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead. The Panthers never led. A lot of saves like that added up to 460 wins for Fleury, who passed Henrik Lundqvist (459) for fifth on the NHL all-time list behind Martin Brodeur (691), Patrick Roy (551), Roberto Luongo (489) and Ed Belfour (484).

One of the most memorable events during the season was the 2019 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic between the Jets and Flames at Mosaic Stadium on Oct. 26. The setting for the neutral-site game won 2-1 in overtime by the Jets on a goal by Bryan Little had everything as afternoon snow flurries covered a sold-out football stadium giving the television-viewing audience a postcard picture. The pregame and in-game festivities offered plenty of Saskatchewan flair with musical performances by local acts The Sheepdogs, Jess Moskaluke and Hunter Brothers; even referees Brad Meier and Graham Skilliter had Saskatchewan roots. The opening ceremonies featured a ceremonial puck drop with indigenous former NHL player Fred Sasakamoose, and Brigette Lacquette, the first indigenous member of the Canada women's national team. A flyover by a CC-130H Hercules aircraft from the 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron based in Winnipeg gave everyone goose bumps. Jets coach Paul Maurice said afterward that only a flyby from Santa Claus and his reindeer could have made the game more perfect.
