BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA TOOLS TO VICTORY
5:20 p.m.
Mike Maniscalco delivers tonight's Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina three Tools to Victory.
1. Clean Up the Neutral Zone
Anaheim was able to gain the offensive zone with ease at times and that lead to grade-A chances. The Hurricanes have to make sure they don't allow a repeat of that tonight.
2. More Finnish
Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho combined for three goals last night against the Ducks. The Hurricanes would love to see the two Finns get on a roll and carry the offense for a while.
3. About Last Night
Forget about it. What happened in Anaheim should have no bearing on what happens in Los Angeles tonight.
CANES SQUARE OFF WITH KINGS IN LA
3:00 p.m.
The Carolina Hurricanes will wrap up their fourth back-to-back of the season tonight in Los Angeles when they face off with the Los Angeles Kings.
On Wednesday night in Anaheim, the Hurricanes held a two-goal lead in the third period but settled for a point in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Ducks. Teuvo Teravainen scored two goals and 11 different Canes, including Cam Ward, tallied points as the team's offense came alive after having just scored seven goals combined in their previous five road games.
The Kings have been idle since Sunday, when they lost 5-4 in a shootout to the visiting Montreal Canadiens. A 6-2-2 mark in their last 10 games has helped Los Angeles improve to 13-10-2 (28 points) overall, putting the team just shy of a wild card spot in the West.
Potential lineup changes and a starting goaltender for the Hurricanes have yet to be announced. After traveling from Anaheim to Los Angeles last night, the team did not hold a morning skate today. Elias Lindholm (lower body) is with the team on the trip but was again held out of the lineup last night.
CANESPR NOTES: This is the fourth of 16 back-to-back sets the Hurricanes will play this season. They are now 1-2-1 in the front halves and 2-1-0 in the back halves. … As has been the case more often than not this season, the Canes have been perfect on the penalty kill - which is tops in the league both overall and on the road - in their last four games, killing off 15-of-15 penalties.
