The Jets struck first at 5:34 of the opening frame, on the power play. With Jujhar Khaira in the box for slashing, Nikolaj Ehlers potted his first of the pre-season. Jacob Trouba faked a shot from the point and passed it down low to Tyler Myers. The big defenceman then sauced the puck across the face of goaltender Laurent Brossoit to Ehlers, who swept it in.
Edmonton was outshot 11-4 in the first, but would come out swinging in the second. In the middle frame the Oilers scored two goals within a span of 13 seconds to take a 2-1 lead.
On a power play, Jokinen passed the puck just wide of the far side of the net and Letestu tapped it in, at 2:14 of the period. The tally was Letestu's third of the pre-season, in two games. Nugent-Hopkins recorded the second assist.
Edmonton's man advantage finished two for four on the night.
"I think this team is really deep with power-play players," said Jokinen, who finished the game with a goal and two assists. "It's a hard competition for who will get that power-play time, obviously… I've played power play my whole career, so obviously I would like to play on the power play for the Oilers too."
Moments later, Zack Kassian fed Khaira back door to give Edmonton their first lead of the night. The goal was Khaira's second of the exhibition season. The 23-year-old forward is playing for a full-time spot on the roster, having skated in 10 games for Edmonton last season.

Rookie forward Kailer Yamamoto almost scored his second of the pre-season midway through the second, but it was waved off due to a kicking motion of his skate with the puck going in off it.
Jokinen would put another puck in, also off his skate, but this time the marker would stick. Jokinen scored, assisted by Letestu and Nugent-Hopkins, at 13:59 of the second on the power play. The goal would give Edmonton a 3-1 lead.
Jokinen was making his debut for the Oilers, after signing a one-year contract in the off-season.
"I like playing with him," said Nugent-Hopkins. "He's such a smart player. Obviously, a lot of experience in this League, a lot of years, so he knows what to do out there. I've just got to try to read off him. I find we're almost a little bit similar with the style we play. He's a responsible player, but… looking at his point totals, he can obviously get it done offensively too."
To end the game, Nugent-Hopkins dished the puck to Yamamoto for the empty-net tally with six seconds remaining in the game, giving him back the goal taken away earlier in the night.
The Jets had their top eight scorers from last season in the lineup, while Edmonton suited up just two of theirs. The Oilers were outshot 34-25 on the night. On the back end, Brossoit finished his night between the pipes with 13 saves on 14 shots. In two performances this pre-season, Brossoit has only allowed two goals on 27 shots against. Nick Ellis replace Brossoit in goal and stopped all 13 shots he faced.
Edmonton's next pre-season tune-up will be Friday night against Vancouver at home. They face Winnipeg again on Saturday, also at Rogers Place.
