Myers cleared to play, van Riemsdyk 1-2 weeks away, Flyers GM says

Philippe Myers has been cleared to play for the Philadelphia Flyers if the NHL season resumes, general manager Chuck Fletcher said Friday.

The defenseman fractured the patella in his right knee against the Buffalo Sabres on March 7 and was expected to need four weeks to recover. The NHL season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

Myers has 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 50 games and leads Philadelphia defensemen with a plus-17 rating

Forward James van Riemsdyk, who broke his right index finger against the Washington Capitals on March 4, is close to receiving clearance.

"James has full range of motion and good strength in his right hand," Fletcher said. "He is expected to be cleared to play within 1-2 weeks."

Van Riemsdyk has 40 points (19 goals, 21 assists) in 66 games.

Forward Nolan Patrick, who has not played this season because of a migraine disorder, returned home to Winnipeg and continues to work out but has not been cleared for contact.

Defenseman Samuel Morin, who had reconstructive surgery on the ACL in his right knee Nov. 7, has been skating and is expected to be cleared to play in time for the start of the 2020-21 season.
