EDM@CGY: Gaudreau feeds Bennett for goal in 3rd

CALGARY -- Sam Bennett scored his first goal of the season for the Calgary Flames in a 6-4 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Bennett had three shots, three hits and two blocks in 11:29 of ice time after he was a healthy scratch in a 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. His agent, Darren Ferris, has said that the forward has asked to be traded by the Flames.
"I think it's great for my personal confidence, but I think more importantly it's the win for our team and the solid effort from everyone that really excited me the most," Bennett said.
Mikael Backlund had a goal and two assists, and Johnny Gaudreau and Milan Lucic each had a goal and an assist for the Flames (5-5-1), who had lost two in a row. Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves.
"It's a big win," Lucic said. "Every game is a divisional game. It helps us get back in the win column. Perfect timing for this type of game, rivalry game, Battle of Alberta, and stuff like that."

EDM@CGY: Gaudreau scores on breakaway to make it 5-3

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist for the Oilers (6-7-0), who had a three-game winning streak end. Mikko Koskinen made 22 saves.
"When you get six goals scored on you, there's a few things you need to clean up," Edmonton defenseman Darnell Nurse said. "We know we need to be better in our own zone and support each other in the middle of the ice. If we take care of that, we have enough offense."
Dillon Dube scored on the power play to put the Flames up 4-3 at 2:56 of the third period, and Gaudreau shot over Koskinen's glove on a partial breakaway at 5:16 to extend the lead to 5-3.
The goals came after the Oilers tied it 3-3 on a goal by Jesse Puljujarvi 1:18 into the third.
Nurse cut it to 5-4 at 8:55, and Bennett scored off a pass from Gaudreau from behind the net to make it 6-4 at 10:57. The assist was Gaudreau's 300th in the NHL.
"Great play by Johnny," Bennett said. "It was rimmed behind the net, Johnny picked it up quick and he just knew I was there, right on the tape, and that's an easy one for me. He's a pretty special player and really fun to play with."
McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each played the final 5:45 of the game for Edmonton, which included a power play, a timeout, and Koskinen being pulled for an extra skater with 3:07 remaining.
"They pushed back in the second and our response wasn't good enough, and then they got the upper hand and we were chasing a little bit the rest of the game," Nurse said. "We got a good start, but we have to carry that into the second and third and find a way to put the nail on it."

EDM@CGY: McDavid puts home PPG in 1st

Elias Lindholm gave Calgary a 1-0 lead 56 seconds into the game. Jujhar Khaira tied it 1-1 at 6:53 on a redirection, and McDavid scored a power-play goal to make it 2-1 at 18:29. McDavid has 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in a nine-game point streak.
Lucic tied it 2-2 at 3:04 of the second period, and Backlund scored on his rebound off the rush to put the Flames ahead 3-2 at 4:58.
"We had a good start," Oilers defenseman Adam Larsson said. "It's two good hockey teams going at it and I think you're going to see those turns in the game, and we just have to learn how to play under pressure. Those are times you have to bear down and play really good structured hockey."
NOTES: Edmonton defenseman Tyson Barrie had an assist to extend his point streak to five games (one goal, seven assists). ... Oilers defenseman William Lagesson had the primary assist on Khaira's goal for his first NHL point. … Draisaitl had the secondary assist on Nurse's goal to extend his point streak to nine games (seven goals, 11 assists). … Gaudreau has at least one point in all but one game this season. He has scored 158 goals in his 475 NHL games.
