DET@CHI: Suter records first NHL hat trick

CHICAGO -- Pius Suter scored the first three goals of his NHL career when the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-2 at United Center on Sunday.

"I was pumped up, I was excited," Suter said. "When you have two (goals), you know what the next one is going to mean. Just kind of happy it worked out."
Connor Murphy and Mattias Janmark each had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Kane had two assists for the Blackhawks (2-3-1). Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves for his second straight win.
Tyler Bertuzzi scored two power-play goals, and Jonathan Bernier made 29 saves for Detroit (2-4-0), which lost 4-1 to Chicago on Friday.
"No. 1, we didn't do a good enough job of putting pucks in behind people and being on the same page," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "No. 2, I thought tonight, for sure, we were loose defensively. … We're going to have to be a team that does it way better in terms of defending. We can't give up lots of chances. We're not going to necessarily expect to score easy, so we have to be a team that defends way better than we did tonight."

DET@CHI: Bertuzzi scores second PPG of the game

Suter tapped in a rebound to give Chicago a 1-0 lead at 4:42 of the first period. He made it 2-0 at 9:44 when he scored a power-play goal and completed the hat trick with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle for a 5-2 lead at 12:28 of the third period.
"I was happy to get the first [goal], finally," said Suter, who was playing in his sixth NHL game. "[It] made it easier after. Then after the second one, I felt like, 'Yeah, now you need to get that third one,' especially when the second one is that early. So I had some chances, then at the end it worked out. It was a great feeling. It was fun. Gave me some confidence too. It's a good start of something."
Suter signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks on July 16 after he was the leading scorer and most valuable player of the top professional league in Switzerland. Playing for ZSC, Suter led the National League with 30 goals and 53 points in 50 games.

"We played well for a lot of the game," Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said. "Second period, we got a bit up and down, bit scrambly with our puck plays, but the Murphy goal was big for us to go in with a little more breathing room. But overall, the start, the third period [were] very solid, professional approach, and we were rewarded for it."
Kane sent a cross-ice pass from the left circle to Janmark, who scored 58 seconds into the third period to make it 4-1. Murphy had an assist on the goal for his 100th NHL point.
"Everyone can get used to scoring, yes," Murphy said. "It's something that you always have fun with."

The Red Wings went 2-for-5 on the power play after they scored once on 12 opportunities entering the game.
"Our power play needed to be way better," Bertuzzi said. "That's going to win us some games down the stretch. If we can get that going, we'll win a lot more games. It was good to get those two power-play goals."
Philipp Kurashev scored at 15:55 of the third for the 6-2 final.
