Darren Helm signs contract with Red Wings: report

Forward to remain with Detroit for five years

Forward Darren Helm signed a five-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, according to MLive.com. The contract has an average annual value of $3.85 million.

Helm, 29, had 13 goals and 26 points in 77 games with the Red Wings in 2015-16.

Helm was selected by the Red Wings in the fifth-round (No. 132) of the 2005 NHL Draft. In nine seasons, all with the Red Wings, he has 72 goals and 162 points in 443 games. He helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in 2008 as a rookie and return to the Cup Final in 2009.
