"He wasn't able to get on the ice this weekend," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Monday. "[He did] light training, so we'll see how he is this week. Hopefully he can get on later this week."
Asked if Crawford had a setback, Quenneville said, "Setback, whatever, we were encouraged that he might be on [the ice] this weekend, so it doesn't give us a clear idea of when he'll be able to play."
The Blackhawks remain optimistic Crawford will return this season, but nothing can be determined until he gets on the ice.
"We'll have the variables and answers when we have that decision in front of us," Quenneville said. "You'd never put him where he'd be compromised, as far as getting hurt. Where he's at, getting some pucks and getting the feel of it, we can't talk about that right now until we get him on the ice."
Crawford is 16-9-2 with a 2.27 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in 28 games. He last played Dec. 23, when he was pulled after allowing three goals on seven shots in a 4-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils.
"We always wish our teammates the best and speedy recoveries when they're out," center Jonathan Toews said of Crawford. "It's one of those indefinite things. There are a lot of indefinite things you can worry about in hockey or in any sport. You can't have your mind in a million places at once so I think everyone's focused on their own job right now."
In Crawford's absence the Blackhawks have used Anton Forsberg and Jeff Glass. Forsberg will start against the Predators.
