Hartman and Kirill Kaprizov each had a goal and an assist, and Marco Rossi had two assists for the Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury started and made 12 saves in 31:10. Jesper Wallstedt, the No. 20 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, allowed two goals on 13 shots in his NHL preseason debut.
Spencer Smallman and Shane Bowers scored, and Justus Annunen made 33 saves for the Avalanche, the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
Kaprizov gave the Wild a 1-0 lead 5:24 into the second period but left late in the third with an apparent injury. The forward hobbled to the bench after he took a shot off his ankle early in the third and took his next shift. He was fifth in the NHL with 108 points and tied Winnipeg Jets forward Kyle Connor for fifth with 47 goals last season.
Calen Addison made it 2-0 at 17:27, beating Annunen from the point.
Smallman got the Avalanche within 2-1, beating Wallstedt on a short breakaway, at 3:32 of the third. Bowers tied it 2-2 at 5:23.
It was the first preseason game for each team and a split-squad game for the Avalanche, who play the Vegas Golden Knights in Denver at 9 p.m. ET.
