CHI@EDM: Kane scores to extend point streak

EDMONTON -- The Chicago Blackhawks scored five goals in the third period and won their fifth straight game, 6-2 against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Tuesday.

John Hayden, Dylan Strome, Patrick Kane, Drake Caggiula and Dominik Kahun had goals in the third. Four of the five were scored in 2:48.
"It is nice to keep this roll going and finally turn things a bit," Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said. "We have a bit of momentum and we are playing well. When you have the momentum and keep playing well, you usually get the results. We just need to keep pushing and we will get our points."

Kane, who also had an assist, extended his point streak to 12 games. He has 10 goals and 18 assists over that stretch.
Erik Gustafsson scored in the first period for Chicago (21-24-9), and Cam Ward made 25 saves. Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad each had two assists.
"We know what we are doing is working and we are hanging in games," Toews said. "Whether we are ahead or down a goal going into the third period, we can find ways to create offense and come out on top. We had offense from all over our lineup tonight, which was great. It is nice for our team to win in different ways. It only adds to our confidence."
Leon Draisaitl scored two goals and Connor McDavid had two assists for Edmonton (23-25-5), which has lost six in a row (0-4-2). Cam Talbot allowed four goals on 27 shots before being pulled at 5:51 of the third period. Mikko Koskinen made six saves.
"Same type of thing as the last couple of games; we control a lot of the first two [periods], and then go to sleep in the third," McDavid said. "I'm not sure what that is."

CHI@EDM: Blackhawks erupt with five-goal 3rd period

Gustafsson scored on the power play at 1:55 of the first period to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead.
Draisaitl scored on the power play at 16:41 to make it 1-1. He then made it 2-1 on a two-man advantage at 18:45 when he one-timed a pass from McDavid.
"The power play was good, that's about it. We had a few chances, but we collapsed again," Draisaitl said. "We just collapsed. We turned the puck over and collapsed. That's it."
Hayden scored at 3:30 of the third when he converted a pass from Marcus Kruger following a turnover deep in the Oilers zone to make it 2-2.
Strome scored at 5:23 from the right face-off circle to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead, a shot that went between defenseman Darnell Nurse's legs and past Talbot.

Kane made it 4-2 when he scored on a rebound at 5:51. Oilers coach Ken Hitchcock challenged for goaltender interference, but the goal stood.
Koskinen relieved Talbot after Kane's goal.
Caggiula scored on the first shot Koskinen faced at 6:38 to make it 5-2, and Kahun scored at 12:12 for the 6-2 final.
"It was not our best effort, not even close to being good enough," said Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom said, who returned after missing 21 games with a broken finger. "We left our goalies out to dry multiple times. It's not good enough, simple as that."

They said it

"We are playing well and we are just climbing. The work ethic has been there much more consistently. There are a couple of things we can tighten up, like our penalty kill. But we are feeling pretty good with our game and a few road wins this week." -- Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews
"We weathered the storm after two, they were coming pretty hard at us in the second. They were building their game and we started strong and went the other way. I didn't see the third period coming, but we paid for not managing the puck." -- Oilers coach Ken Hitchcock
