Samsonov injury

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Ilya Samsonov left early in the second period of the Toronto Maple Leafs' 3-2 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at FLA Live Arena on Sunday because of an undisclosed injury.

The goalie was injured 37 seconds into the second when Maple Leafs defenseman Luke Schenn slid into him while attempting to break up a Panthers 2-on-1. He laid on the ice for several minutes before being helped to Toronto's locker room.

Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe did not have an update after the game on Samsonov, who was replaced by Joseph Woll.

The Panthers lead the best-of-7 series 3-0. Game 4 will be here on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN, CBC, TVAS).

At the time of the injury, Samsonov had made eight saves for the Maple Leafs, who were leading 1-0. He entered the game 4-4 with a 3.27 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Woll made 18 saves on 21 shots.

"I thought Woll was excellent," Keefe said. "Not surprised. He's ready for this."

Woll had made one previous postseason appearance, making five saves on six shots in relief of Samsonov in a 7-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the first round at Scotiabank Arena on April 18.

"The first thing I'm thinking about is hoping Samsonov is not hurt too bad," Woll said. "Hope for the best for him. After that it was focusing and try to get to the place I need to be mentally, and I think I did a good job of that in settling in."

If Samsonov is unable to return for Game 4, the Maple Leafs could turn to Matt Murray, who has not played since sustaining a head injury on April 2.

"Matt Murray's been cleared," Keefe said. "He's healthy."
