Silfverberg, Ducks end Coyotes winning streak at six

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Adam Henrique and Troy Terry each scored a power-play goal in the third period, and the Anaheim Ducks ended the Arizona Coyotes' six-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory at Gila River Arena on Tuesday.

Jakob Silfverberg had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Kesler played his 1,000th NHL game for the Ducks (26-32-9), who won their second in a row after losing their previous five games. Ryan Miller made 22 saves and is 13-4-0 in 17 games against the Coyotes.
"Miller] made some big saves at certain points of the game, which were huge," Coyotes defenseman Jason Demers said. "I wish we'd put more shots on him and made him work harder, but we had our chances. We were a little bit too soft tonight."

The Coyotes (32-29-5), who haven't won seven in a row since an eight-game winning streak from Feb. 5-22, 2011, are three points behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
"We were physical on them. We know they've got a lot of small skill guys over there, and that seems the way the game is going now," Kesler said. "When we're playing our game, in the neutral zone, those kids have nowhere to skate. We were finishing checks and being hard on them and trying to intimidate them."

Silfverberg gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead, deflecting Josh Manson's wrist shot from the right point at 3:52 of the first period.
"The puck seems to be going in and it's not just me, I think our team is playing pretty good right now," Silfverberg said. "Right now we're getting rewarded and it's a good feeling. We've got some games left and we're going to try to make the best of it."
Silfverberg has four points (two goals, two assists) in his past two games and six goals in his past 11 games.
"He's a good player and he's starting to score, and you can see the confidence starting to build," Kesler said.
Lawson Crouse tied it at 1-1 at 18:32 after the Coyotes failed to score on a 5-on-3 power play lasting 1:54.

"We had some chances and I thought we were good in the first and, after that, it was garbage," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. "We like what's been going on around here, but the second and third weren't good."
Arizona couldn't score on a power play that carried over for 1:49 into the third period, and Crouse drew a tripping penalty at 2:36. Henrique tipped Rickard Rakell's shot past Darcy Kuemper at 3:46 with the man advantage to give Anaheim a 2-1 lead.
"We were sluggish, some guys were sluggish and that's what happens when you're sluggish and not ready to go," Tocchet said.
Terry made it 3-1 at 11:15 with four seconds remaining on a power play created by Mario Kempe's slashing penalty.

"We had some plays out there you shake your head at," Crouse said. "I took a pretty bad penalty and it led to a goal, and then we took another one not too long after that that led to another one and, at this point of the season, you can't do that."
Kuemper made 28 saves in losing for the first time in his past eight starts (7-1-0).
Anaheim was 2-for-5 on the power play, and Arizona was 0-for-5.
"We had some chances on the power play and we have to be sharper," Demers said. "It's hard when you're losing special teams battles. But you can't dwell on the games at this point of the season, we've got to turn the page."
