Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has been the model of offensive consistency, category coverage and durability since entering the NHL in 2005-06, making him one of the all-time great fantasy hockey players.
The 32-year-old scored his 599th and 600th NHL goals against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, becoming the 20th player to reach that mark and the fourth to do it in fewer than 1,000 games, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The others are Wayne Gretzky (718 games), Mario Lemieux (719) and Brett Hull (900).
Ovechkin has been a perennial top 10 fantasy pick and finisher in Yahoo leagues, covering most fantasy categories at an elite level in each season of his NHL career. This season, Ovechkin is better than a point per game (74 points in 69 games), leads the NHL in goals (42) and has covered peripheral categories again with 298 shots on goal, 26 power-play points and 127 hits.
