With the NHL trade deadline come and gone, it made for an easy recap of the last week for the New Jersey Devils. Three players were moved to new teams, while young prospects and picks were acquired. And let's face it, this wouldn't be a 10 Takeaways without another mention of goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, who seems to be doing something special every week.
Without further ado, here are your 10 Takeaways presented by Ticketmaster:

1.

Just in time to make it into this week's 10 Takeaways, the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline struck at 3 pm ET on Monday afternoon. It was a day where a couple of players with expiring contracts were shipped to other teams in return for assets. Defenseman Sami Vatanen, who was acquired back in 2017, had the greatest return.
Vatanen heads to Carolina, with the Devils receiving forward Janne Kuokkanen, defenseman Fredrik Claesson and Carolina's conditional fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Wayne Simmonds left earlier in the day for a conditional fifth-round pick to Buffalo and Louis Domingue, who was with Binghamton at the time, was traded to Vancouver in a goaltender swap. New Jersey received Zane McIntyre from Vancouver.

2.

Interim general manager Tom Fitzgerald said he and his management group considered Kuokkanen the Hurricane's best AHL prospect and he was a second-round pick in the 2016 Entry Draft.
"We're really excited about Janne," Fitzgerald said. "We felt he was their top prospect. He's been doing it at a high level in the American League that I believe translates to the National Hockey League."

3.

Janne Kuokkanen heads to Binghamton as their leading scorer he has 42 points in 52 games while with the Charlotte Checkers (12 goals, 30 assists). He's one point ahead of Brett Seney for the Binghamton lead. Seney has 18 goals and 23 points in 54 games played this season in the AHL.

4.

The Devils have just one unrestricted free agent that remains on their current NHL roster: Kevin Rooney.

5.

The Devils contributed three trades on Monday's deadline day, helping the NHL reach a record 32 trades on deadline day, beating out 2010's 31 which had been the record (since 1979-80).

6.

It's becoming increasingly harder not to have at least one bullet point every week about Mackenzie Blackwood. He's had such an outstanding season so far and continues to impress with every performance.
His victory against the San Jose Sharks last Thursday marked a fifth consecutive win for the rookie netminder. And once again is part of another stat worth noting. After posting his victory against the Sharks, and then another against the Capitals, Blackwood with his sixth consecutive victory moved within one of the Devils/ Rockies / Scouts record for the longest win run by a rookie goaltender, which is currently held by Sean Burke (7-0-0 in 1987-88).

7.

I always like talking with Cory Schneider. Schneider was recalled from Binghamton on February 20, and will remain with the team the rest of the season. It's evident that Mackenzie Blackwood has taken over the number one spot, but Schneider is genuinely happy for him. Schneider gets it. There's a comradery there, where Schneider has seen Blackwood grow into this position, in a way Schneider does not envy.
"I'm proud of him," Schneider said. "It's not an easy situation. Throughout my career I spent 3 years in college, 3 years in the minors and got eased in behind a [future] Hall of Famer in Roberto [Luongo] then came to a great place where another Hall of Famer was here.
"I kind of got brought in the right way," Schneider continued. "It took a while, but it ended up being good for me and [Mackenzie] has been thrown into the fire right away and from last year to where he is now it's unbelievable the transformation and how much he's learned."

8.

The Devils have exactly 20 games left in the regular season, making this next record very possible. Blackwood's victory against the Sharks was his 20th of the season, marking just the third time in franchise history a rookie goaltender has reached the 20-win mark, behind Sean Burke (22) and Martin Brodeur (27).
A victory against the Capitals put Blackwood at 21, so baring some crazy circumstance, Blackwood will move into the number two spot in franchise history relatively soon.
And really, it's not impossible that he ties or breaks the Brodeur record, set during the 1993-94 season, two years before Blackwood was born.

9.

It looks like Jesper Bratt will surpass his career high of 13 goals in a season at some point soon. In his rookie season, Bratt scored 13 goals - a plateau he attained for the second time in his career on Saturday afternoon against the Capitals.
It's pretty remarkable too. The last three goals that Bratt has scored (two in regulation, another in the shootout) have been near-identical, dizzying goals. His latest, sprung on a breakaway by Damon Severson helped the Devils to a victory over the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon.

I asked Jesper what he's thinking on those moves - those identical moves - "I'm thinking nothing!" he said.
Hey, it's working! Bratt has taken 87 shots so far this season, 13 converted into goals for a 14.9 percent success rate, currently his career high.
Also, does anyone else forget that he's just 21 years old?

10.

If you aren't keeping track, allow me to help you out. In the Devils remaining games, they'll face a couple former teammates from this season a total of six times. Sami Vatanen will return with the Hurricanes on March 12th and 29th (though his health status may prevent him from playing), March 15th the Devils will visit Blake Coleman and the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team will see former captain Andy Greene and the Islanders on March 21st at Prudential Center, and again on Long Island on April 4th, while Wayne Simmonds and the Buffalo Sabres visit on April 2nd.

The Palmieri family put together another incredible Military Ball hosted by the Kyle Palmieri Foundation. In its second year of existence, the event grew with 400-plus guests, and incredible silent auction, the most amazing dessert table(s) you could possibly imagine and the donation of a rebuilt and recycled car with the help of Brenner's Auto Body.
