SUMMIT SERIES - 1920x1080 - A

To mark the 50th anniversary of Team Canada's historic victory in the 1972 Summit Series, the Toronto Maple Leafs will host and honour members from the iconic team in a pre-game ceremony, and throughout the evening, during their nationally-televised September 28 pre-season game at Scotiabank Arena against the Montreal Canadiens.

The celebration marks exactly 50 years to the day that Paul Henderson scored one of the most famous goals in hockey history to give Canada a 6-5 victory and a series clinching win against the Soviet Union in the eighth and final game of the Summit Series in Moscow.

Canadians were captivated by the first-of-its-kind series between the two nations. From coast to coast, 16 million of Canada's 22 million people tuned in to the deciding game, despite being aired during daytime work and school hours. The series transformed international hockey competition forever.
