In celebration of the National Hockey League's Hockey is for Everyone™ month, the Toronto Maple Leafs will host their own You Can Play Night on Monday, February 25, 2019, when the team faces the Buffalo Sabres at Scotiabank Arena. The You Can Play project is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ athletes, coaches and fans.

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Zach Hyman will serve as the team's official Hockey is for Everyone ambassador. "I am honored to take on the role as the Maple Leafs' Hockey is for Everyone ambassador this year," said Hyman. "Hockey is a sport for everyone, regardless of gender identity, race, religion and sexual orientation. Our team and fans are all equal on the ice, stands, arenas and homes, and everyone should have the chance to play."
Throughout the night, Toronto Maple Leafs will promote inclusion in the hockey community in a variety of ways. Courtesy of Ford, 50 members of You Can Play and the Toronto Gay Hockey Association will watch Monday's game from the Ford Fan Deck. A public service announcement featuring Toronto Maple Leafs players will be shown in-arena and shared on the team's digital media channels, along with different Hockey is for Everyone stories.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs are very much a part of You Can Play history," said Ryan Pettengill, You Can Play Executive Director. "MLSE's commitment to the You Can Play vision has continued to grow over the years, and is one of the most inspiring stories in the fight for changing sport culture."
A You Can Play table will be set up in the concourse to raise awareness and distribute promotional materials to fans. To help raise funds and awareness, limited edition You Can Play and Maple Leafs co-branded hats will also be available for purchase for $20 at Real Sports Apparel, with all proceeds benefitting You Can Play.
