Things sure have changed since the days when NHL players used to show up to training camp planning to use it to get in shape for the regular season.

Nowadays, those not already in shape when camp begins won’t last long; especially this year, when a shortened preseason of only four games brings added meaning to each day unfolding. Likewise, fans planning to use Kraken Training Camp, pres. by Starbucks, to refamiliarize with the team and its players will find the Oct. 1 season opener rapidly bearing down on them.

To accelerate that reacquaintance process, the Kraken are inviting supporters to “Train Like a Fan” through several upcoming events enabling them to shake off the offseason, find their voice and prepare. The most obvious of those is this week’s start of Rookie Camp, followed by next week’s opening of regular Kraken Training Camp, with public practices for both at Kraken Community Iceplex (KCI) that fans can attend free of charge.

Next week will also see the team’s One Roof Foundation open its fifth Sport Court, this one in Northgate right near KCI, on Sept. 17, where fans are also invited to attend and practice their ball hockey skills. There will also be watch parties for Kraken preseason games taking place at various Kraken Anchor Alliance Bars throughout the region.

Finally, the team will hold its third annual Seattle Kraken 5K, pres. by Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, at Green Lake on Oct. 3, just ahead of the team’s home opener the following day against Calgary.

A “Train Like a Fan” webpage will also be set up and starting Friday, Sept. 11 fans – even those who can’t make it out to KCI to see the team – can participate in Kraken digital fan trivia and games via the Train Like a Fan webpage. The more fans log in to the site daily throughout camp, the greater their chance of winning a pair of tickets to the Kraken’s home opener.

None of “Train Like a Fan” will involve fans actually jumping on the ice or into the weight room alongside Kraken players gearing up for the season ahead. But then again, fans can get their family, and friends all geared up for the 2026 – 2027 Kraken campaign.

The weeks upcoming will afford fans the chance to prepare for what they do best in getting behind the team. Much of that involves reaffirming and expanding their Kraken knowledge, whether by getting a first glimpse of future regulars at Rookie Camp, seeing the NHL forward lines emerge at Training Camp, or simply getting back into the habit of following the team daily.

Then, once the regular season hits, nobody will be caught flat-footed.
