WINNIPEG, Feb. 4, 2019 - In support of the NHL and the Winnipeg Jets' commitment to diversity and inclusion in hockey, the club announced today that it will be hosting its This is Hockey: You Can Play game on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2018 at Bell MTS Place when the team welcomes the New York Rangers.

The Winnipeg Jets' This is Hockey: You Can Play game will help to promote the Hockey is for Everyone (HIFE) campaign and its message to use the game of hockey to drive positive social change, and foster more inclusive communities. The players will support You Can Play by wearing rainbow-themed jerseys and using sticks with rainbow tape during warm-up to show their support for all to have the opportunity to participate in sport no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity. All the warm-up jerseys and sticks will then be auctioned online with proceeds going to You Can Play and the Rainbow Resource Centre. The Rainbow Resource Centre will also be set up in the Bell MTS Place concourse to provide information to fans.

Hockey is for Everyone supports any teammate, coach, or fan who brings heart, energy, and passion to the rink. They believe all hockey programs - from professionals to youth organizations - should provide a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for players and families regardless of race, colour, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.

HIFE is conducted in partnership with the You Can Play Project, a nonprofit organization that works to ensure safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and fans. You Can Play believes sports teams should focus on an athlete's skills, work ethic, and competitive spirit, not their sexual orientation or gender identity.
