Lee Stempniak broke a 4-4 tie with 14:18 to play as the Carolina Hurricanes scored three third period goals to defeat the Islanders 7-4 before a crowd of 16,640 at PNC Center.
John Tavares scored twice for the Isles, giving him five goals in the last two games. A third goal, which was awarded to him after a scoring change, was later returned to Anders Lee.
Carolina improves to 14-1-1 in their last 16 home games.
