Quine was originally selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round (No. 85) of the 2011 NHL Draft. He wasn't signed and re-entered the Draft in 2013, when he was selected in the sixth round (No. 166) by the New York Islanders.
The versatile forward played for three teams (Kingston, Peterborough, Belleville) in the Ontario Hockey League from 2009-13 and had 218 points (90 goals, 128 assists) in 252 games. He signed an amateur tryout contract with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on March 26, 2012, and played three games, finishing with one assist.

Quine became a full-time pro at the start of the 2013-14 season and had 27 points (eight goals, 19 assists) in 61 games with Bridgeport of the AHL. He led Bridgeport in scoring in 2014-15 with 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists) in 75 games.
Quine scored a goal in his NHL debut with the Islanders against the Buffalo Sabres on April 9, 2016, at Barclays Center and helped New York take a 3-2 series lead in the Eastern Conference First Round against the Florida Panthers when he scored in double-overtime to give the Islanders a 2-1 win in Game 5 at BB&T Center on April 22, 2016. Quine had 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) in 2016-17, his first full NHL season.
A native of Belleville, Ontario, Quine helped Team Canada win the gold medal at the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
