News and Notes: Two-Way Talent: Defenseman Mitch Vande Sompelhas displayed his exceptional offensive upside through the first eight games of his professional career. The New York Islanders' third-round pick in 2015 has four points in his last four games and is tied for third on the Sound Tigers in points (six), and tied for the team lead in assists (five). Vande Sompel is also tied for sixth among all AHL defenseman in points. He had 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists) in 67 games between the Oshawa Generals and London Knights (Ontario Hockey League) last season.
