Islanders score three unanswered in 3-1 road win

The New York Islanders picked up a third straight win on Tuesday night, beating the Arizona Coyotes 3-1 at Gila River Arena.
Josh Ho-Sang, Brock Nelson and Anthony Beauvillier scored for the Islanders, helping the team overcome an early 1-0 deficit for their first win in the desert since 2014. Robin Lehner made 36 saves to pick up his first win since Oct. 30.
The win was also the Islanders second in as many nights, after beating Colorado 4-1 on Monday. They are 2-0 on their current Western Conference road trip.
"Real gutsy back to back," Head Coach Barry Trotz said. "Guys were blocking shots when they needed to and doing what they needed to do to make sure puck didn't get into the danger areas… Two goals against in the last two games, we'll have a chance to win every night."

NYI@ARI: Lehner makes two terrific stops off the rush

LEHNER BACKSTOPS WIN:

Robin Lehner picked up his first win since Oct. 30 on Tuesday.
The timeline sounds harsher than it is, as the goalie only played seven games (0-5-2) in that span. Mixed in were a pair of minor injuries, a nice run from Thomas Greiss, and two strong performances that resulted in a pair of 2-1 shootout losses.
"We finally got him some goals," Trotz said. "He made some real key saves today. I was really happy for him."
Lehner, who has allowed just one goal in three of his past four games, was just relieved to get back in the win column.
"It was just really nice to get a win to be honest," Lehner said.
Mario Kempe's knuckler at 9:14 of the first was the only puck to beat Lehner, who shook it off and wwas sharp on Tuesday. He stopped a Derek Stepan breakaway for his first save of the game and lunged across his net to stop a Conor Garland rebound. He kept a clean sheet in the second and third periods.
"The first one I thought he was a little off his angle there, but he fought through and I thought he rebounded," Trotz said. "After that he was real good. Real sharp."

NELSON PLAYS, NETS WINNER:

Brock Nelson was a game-time decision heading into Tuesday's game after leaving Monday's win in Colorado after a collision with Ian Cole.
Initially, Cole was thought to have Nelson knee on knee, but the Islanders center said the hit caught him slightly higher. The Islanders trainers fixed him up to play in the second night of a back to back and Nelson netted the game-winning goal, sniping a Jordan Eberle feed past Darcy Kuemper at 3:38 of the second period.
"I felt good enough to go," Nelson said. "We had a couple of good shifts there and the second period was good for us. We were able to take over and get the lead. It was a big win for us with the back to back and travel. We're starting this trip off right."

NYI@ARI: Ho-Sang cashes in from a difficult angle

HO-SANG SCORES FIRST OF THE YEAR:

Josh Ho-Sang scored his first goal of the season on Tuesday night, putting the Islanders into a 1-1 tie in the first period.
Ho-Sang picked a corner from along the goal line, corralling a loose puck after Ryan Pulock's point shot was blocked in front. The goal was Ho-Sang's first since Nov. 22, 2017 and his first point in three games with the Islanders this season.
"It feels really good to score again and get that good feeling," Ho-Sang said.

PULOCK PICKS UP PAIR OF ASSISTS:

Ryan Pulock collected two assists on Tuesday night and has four assists over his past two games. Pulock picked up helpers on the Islanders' first two goals and now has 14 points on the season, leapfrogging Scott Mayfield for most among Islanders defensemen.

BEAUVILLIER SCORES 11TH:

Anthony Beauvillier gave the Islanders some insurance on Tuesday night, one-timing a Josh Bailey feed past Kuemper at 8:29 of the second period. Beauvillier's goal was his 11th of the season and fourth in his last five games.

HICKEY OUT, SBISA IN:

Thomas Hickey did not play on Tuesday night. The Isles defenseman left Monday's win in the second period with an upper-body injury and did not return. Luca Sbisa filled in for Hickey on the Isles blue line, playing his first game since Nov. 18.

NEXT GAME:

The Islanders continue their four-game Western road trip in Las Vegas on Thursday night when they take on the Golden Knights.
