Rapid Recap: Kings 5, Islanders 2

The New York Islanders fell 5-2 to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night, allowing four goals in the middle frame to lose the opener on their three-game California road trip.
Pierre Engvall and Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored for the Islanders, but it wasn't enough to counteract offense from Blake Lizotte, Drew Doughty, Alex Iafallo (GWG), Trevor Moore and Quinton Byfield (EN).
Ilya Sorokin stopped 33-of-37 in the loss, while Joonas Korpisalo stopped 26-of-28 in the win.
The Islanders lost an opportunity to gain some ground against teams in the race for a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, as Pittsburgh, Washington, Ottawa and Detroit all fell in regulation on Tuesday.

THE SCORING:
1st Period:
11:45 - NYI 1, LAK 0 - After receiving a feed from Ryan Pulock, Pierre Engvall races down the slot, drags and rips the puck past Joonas Korpisalo to open the scoring. Engvall has goals in back-to-back games in his fifth game as an Islander.

2nd Period:
1:54 - NYI 1, LAK 1 - After the Kings win a faceoff in the Islanders zone, Gabriel Vilardi finds Sean Walker at the point, who wrists a long shot that deflects off Blake Lizotte and into the net.
6:06 - LAK 2, NYI 1 PPG - The Kings capitalize on a 5-on-3 to take their first lead of the game. Anze Kopitar sets up Drew Doughty for a one-timer at the dot, which beats Ilya Sorokin. Adrian Kempe collects the secondary assist.
7:06 - LAK 3, NYI 1 PPG - Los Angeles strikes again a minute after their second goal to extend the lead. Viktor Arvidsson shoots and hits the post, but Alex Iafallo is positioned at the side of the net to bury the rebound. Arthur Kaliyev picks up the secondary assist.
12:14 - LAK 4, NYI 1 - Phillip Danault sends a pass to Trevor Moore, who winds and rips a snapshot through Sorokin to obtain a three-goal lead. Vladislav Gavrikov tallies the secondary assist.
17:02 - LAK 4, NYI 2 - Jean-Gabriel deflects Sebastian Aho's slap shot, recording his first goal in his first game back in the lineup after an injury sidelined him for 12 games. Ryan Pulock picks up the secondary assist for his second point of the night.

3rd Period:
19:07 - LAK 5, NYI 2 - Quinton Byfield scores an empty net goal to ice the game. Matt Roy and Vladislav Gavrikov collect the assists.
NOTEBOOK:
Pierre Engvall has goals in back-to-back games, scoring the opening goal in both... Jean-Gabriel scored against the Kings in his return to the lineup after missing 12 games with an injury, and centered a line with Engvall and Hudson Fasching...The identity line of Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck was reunited on Tuesday night for the first time since Jan. 18... With two assists, Ryan Pulock is now playing a point-per-game against the Kings, with eight points in eight career games played... Cal Clutterbuck led the team with six hits...
